The Chasm

The Depth of the Canyon

When we look at a canyon, what do we see? A crack in the earth, a separation of two distinct parts, a deep abyss, all of our descriptions that we use convey a sense of depth and perhaps separation. But what exactly is in those depths. As people, we all have our “canyons” or our “deep chasms”, what do we all keep down in those depths? What pains, sorrows and disappoints lay at the bottom of yours.

For as deep as a canyon is and for all the hurt that may lie at the bottom, there is life down there, sometimes, every so often we may have to traverse to the bottom to “deal” with some of our negative experiences and emotions.

When we are at the bottom we need to realize that the elements that we throw in there, as negative as they are, are still a part of our life. The negative parts of our life are just as important as the positive aspects of our life, for without the negative we would not be able to distinguish the positive.

1.       How deep is your canyon or your abyss? How many  fractures do you have? How much “stuff” did you throw in there?

2.        Why is it easier to hide the negative aspects of life than to face them head on?

3.       List a few things you need to retrieve from your own abyss?
